Capt John Sax Scholarship Recipient: John Minnich

Capt Sax Aviation Scholarship Recipient

As our board begins reviewing applications for the June 2025 scholarship round, we’re taking a moment to celebrate one of our first round recipients: John Minnich, and give a callout to another incredible nonprofit we hope you’ll check out – RTAG.

John is a CV-22 Flight Engineer, and has been for over a decade. Over the course of seventeen years, he has deployed over ten times and has flown countless missions in service to our country. Nearing his transition out of the military, he wanted to find ways to utilize his extensive flight experience and give back to the community.

Already having earned his private pilot and instrument rating, he set his sights on his commercial and CFI ratings, and we’re grateful to share we were able to play a very small part with awarding him a $1,500 Capt. Sax Scholarship in honor of Capt. John J. Sax in our first round.

We’re proud to share that John has since achieved exactly what he set out to do – completing his CFI earlier this year. His drive and determination stood out, and we’re so proud to see him accomplish these goals.

We’d be remiss not to mention how John came across our foundation: through the incredible work of RTAG, a veteran-led 501(c)(3) that helps veterans transition into civilian aviation careers. If you don’t already follow them, we encourage you to check out their page and support their mission.

Congratulations again, John – and thank you for letting Capt. John J. Sax’s story play a part in your journey.
