A: No, applicants of all ages are welcome. As long as you’re eligible for the program or training you’re applying for, you will be considered.

A: Currently, our scholarships are only open to applicants residing inside the United States, with the exception of United States military service members currently serving overseas.

A: No, military service isn’t a requirement to receive a Capt. Sax Scholarship. Scholarship awards are given based on many factors, with the primary goal being to maximize the reach of Capt. John J. Sax’s legacy within each recipient’s life and the potential impact of each scholarship.

A: YES! Everyone needs to start somewhere, and we recognize the incredible costs associated with taking those first steps. For this reason, the scholarship is open to both seasoned professionals and those who are just beginning their aviation journey.

A: YES! The scholarship is open to individuals engaged in other aviation-related educational pursuits. This includes current or aspiring Aviation Mechanics, Air Traffic Controllers, college students pursuing educational goals in other aviation-related fields, etc.

All recipients are selected based on many factors, with the primary goal being to maximize the reach of Capt. John J. Sax’s legacy within each recipient’s life and the potential impact of each scholarship.

All scholarship award decisions are made exclusively by our board, comprised of 8 military and civilian pilots who meet bi-annually to review applications and select each award recipient.

General Foundation Info

A: As many know, pursuing an education or aviation career can be extremely costly. From college classes or flight school, to aircraft rentals and flight hours. John was grateful to be able to partially fund his own education through taking out college loans, applying for scholarships, and working as a student employee at Embry-Riddle. This foundation hopes to honor him by helping to alleviate the financial burden of pursuing an interest in this field.

The love that so many have for John is endless, and the desire to honor him through helping others is a beautiful testament to his impact on our lives.

Some distinguishing facts about our foundation:

  • This foundation was started by John's wife, Amber, and is operated by a dedicated team of volunteers consisting of their close friends.
  • We are a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with the IRS and a registered charitable trust in the state of California, where we currently operate.
  • We offer aviation scholarships, with our application form available on our website, along with eligibility parameters and spotlights on past recipients.
