Why this foundation was started?

A book cover with the title of why.

Capt. John J. Sax began his flight training while diligently pursuing a BS in Aeronautical Science. He experienced firsthand the substantial costs associated with obtaining a degree in the Aeronautical Science field, as well as obtaining licenses and ratings. He exhibited unwavering perseverance, demonstrating his dedication by partially funding his own education through working as a student employee, diligently seeking grants and scholarships, and relying on educational loans.

Upon successfully graduating and obtaining his Commercial Pilot’s license, John attained his CFI credentials. In a heartfelt letter to his students announcing his acceptance into OCS with the Marine Corps, John shared the following:

A brown and white hat with a patch on it.

_”Flight instructing has done nothing but build my passion for flying even more. Since I have started flight instructing, I have felt like I haven’t worked one day because it feels like I’m just doing my hobby. Each day is like a new adventure and I get excited knowing that I’m going to help someone achieve their dream to fly.” _

John’s passion for instruction, mentorship, and aiding others in attaining their aspirations persisted throughout his journey, continuing forward as he earned his “Wings of Gold” and became a Marine Corps Aviator. His remarkable ability to approach each day with a smile on his face and a heart for service are among the many qualities fondly remembered by his fellow Marines, family, and friends. He often volunteered his time to support others or offer guidance to aspiring civilian or military pilots, never perceiving this to be “work,†but rather embracing this as a calling.

This foundation serves as a testament to John’s legacy of selfless leadership and emulates his example by ensuring that every individual involved serves on a voluntary basis. Funds received are directly disbursed to flight schools or colleges, guaranteeing their designated use in accordance with the scholarship applicant’s intentions. Together, we carry forward the impact that Capt. John Sax made throughout his lifetime, perpetuating his unwavering passion for flight and his steadfast dedication to helping others achieve their dreams.
