Celebrating National Aviation Day

Honoring National Aviation Day
Today, on National Aviation Day, we pause to reflect on the extraordinary history of flight and the visionaries, pioneers, and everyday dreamers who helped aviation take shape. Established in 1939 by President Franklin D. Roosevelt to celebrate the birthday of Orville Wright, this day reminds us that aviation is more than machines in the sky – it is about courage, innovation, and the limitless pursuit of possibility.
For the Capt. Sax Foundation, National Aviation Day carries a special meaning. Aviation was not only Capt John J. Sax’s profession, but also his greatest passion. From an early age, John dreamed of flight and dedicated his life to pursuing it with skill, determination, and integrity. His love for aviation was evident in every step of his journey, from training to instructing to serving as a Marine Corps aviator.
This photo of John was taken during a visit to the National Air and Space Museum of the Smithsonian Institution with our founder, Amber Sax, and our CFO, Sasha Khounani. Through the Capt Sax Foundation, we are proud to carry forward his legacy by supporting the next generation of aviators, engineers, mechanics, and others who share his love of aviation. Each scholarship awarded is a reminder that John’s passion lives on, lifting others toward their own dreams and ensuring his story continues to inspire.
Today, as we celebrate National Aviation Day, we honor not only the history of flight but also the lives it has touched and the futures it continues to shape.
