Bridging the Gap for Rotor Pilots

Military helicopter pilots face a challenge many outside aviation never see: the fixed-wing hour gap.

When military rotorcraft pilots transition into civilian aviation, they often bring exceptional training, discipline, leadership, and thousands of hours of operational experience. But for those pursuing airline or other fixed-wing careers, rotorcraft time alone may not satisfy the airplane-category requirements needed for FAA certificates, ratings, and hiring pathways.

That gap can mean additional fixed-wing training, multiengine time, instrument and commercial airplane qualifications, ATP-CTP, checkrides, testing fees, aircraft rental, instructor time, and the hours needed to meet fixed-wing experience requirements.

For many veterans, the issue is not capability. It is access.

This is where targeted aviation scholarships can make a meaningful difference. By helping offset the cost of training and certification, scholarship support can help veterans translate their military aviation experience into civilian aviation opportunities without losing momentum at a critical point in their transition.
