Swift 1-1: We Say Their Names, We Honor Them

Capt Nicholas Losapio, Capt John Sax, Cpl Seth Rasmuson, Cpl Nathan Carlson, LCpl Evan Strickland. We Honor Them. We Carry them Forward.

Four years ago, the world lost five Marines: Nick, John, Seth, Nathan, and Evan. They were more than a headline, a photograph, and more than “one of five.”

This represents just a few pieces of who they were, shared through the eyes of their loved ones:

Capt Nicholas “Sloppy” Losapio was remembered as a once-in-a-generation pilot: cool, calm, collected, deeply loved, and devoted to the Marines in his care. He was a fiancé, son, brother, friend, and Marine whose smile and laugh lit up the room and whose footprint on this world was vast.

Capt John “Ball” Sax was an extraordinary Marine, pilot, father, son, brother, and friend. “To know John was to love John.” He had a way of making people feel seen, valued, and capable, whether he was in the cockpit, on the flight line, or with those he loved most. John loved his family deeply and often said he was living his “dream life.”

Cpl Seth Rasmuson lived boldly and freely. A husband, father, son, brother, and friend, Seth loved dirt biking, hockey, hunting, music, and all things outdoors. As a V-22 crew chief with VMM-364, he took pride in what he did and gave a shit. In 21 years, Seth lived a full and fearless life, and those who live that way carry forward the “Seth way.”

Cpl Nathan Carlson was a husband, son, brother, and friend, remembered as “sunshine” to his wife, Emily. Constantly smiling and laughing, Nathan lifted the spirits of those around him. His joy, energy, and optimism were a gift to everyone who knew him.

LCpl Evan Strickland was a son, brother, partner, and friend. Only 19, on his first and final flight with the Purple Foxes, Evan was kind, compassionate, an old soul, and someone who brought fun, support, and connection to the people around him. His life was full of potential, with so many chapters left unwritten.

Each of these Marines leave behind families, friends, and so many others that loved them so tremendously. There will never be a day where they aren’t continuing to live on in so many hearts and memories.

Nick. John. Seth. Nathan. Evan.

We remember them. We honor them. We carry them forward.
