This Mission is Deeply Personal

When we first began forming the Capt Sax Foundation in June 2022, we knew we needed to find a way to carry John’s legacy forward and channel our grief into something positive. Honoring John felt like a shared mission, and we needed somewhere to place the love and grief that felt impossible to carry. John made this world a better place, and his impact on others was far from over.

Remembering his own aviation journey – the long hours, the obstacles, and the hard work that went into every milestone – we knew he’d be proud to see his legacy helping others take flight. After all, he understood the financial hurdles many of our applicants face firsthand, both from pursuing his own aviation dreams and instructing others as a CFI. He worked hard as a student employee while he learned to fly as a civilian, applying for scholarships and grants, and taking out student loans to partially fund his own dreams, which we only continued paying on throughout his military aviation career. Our goal is to help alleviate that financial obstacle for others, with aviation scholarships ranging from $500-$5000.

Our mission is deeply personal. It gives our love for John a place to go. It builds something lasting to ensure his name continues to be spoken and story told. We are dedicated to ensuring this foundation will endure for the years to come, becoming something that our two young daughters can participate in and a way to see their father remembered not just in words, but in action. John believed in the path he chose, and through this foundation, he continues to walk it alongside others.
